Eligibility, Promotion & Compensation
| Document title | Senior Printer Specialist - Eligibility, Promotion & Compensation |
| Document number | SOP-CIMS-CAR-001 |
| Version | 1.0 |
| Effective date | July 1, 2026 |
| Owner | Miguel San Martin - General Manager, CIMS |
| Verification owner | Rita - Crew Records |
| Applies to | All shipboard Printer Specialists across all CIMS customers |
1. Purpose
This SOP establishes the Senior Printer Specialist tier within CIMS: who qualifies, how promotion is verified and approved, the compensation effect, and where the records of record are held. It exists to make promotion to Senior automatic, consistent, and auditable - removing ambiguity and ensuring every qualifying crew member is recognized the same way, regardless of vessel or customer.
2. Scope
This SOP applies to all shipboard Printer Specialists deployed by CIMS across all customers, including Royal Caribbean Group, Celebrity Cruises, Azamara, and Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL).
Coverage vs. eligibility. All crew in the roles above are covered by this policy. Coverage does not mean immediate eligibility - a crew member becomes eligible only once the contract threshold in Section 4 is met. Crew on short-duration assignments (e.g., pilot deployments under six months) are covered but cannot accrue a Completed Contract from an assignment that does not meet the six-month definition below.
3. Definitions
| Term | Definition |
| Completed Contract | A single shipboard assignment of at least six (6) months of cumulative sea-time, served through to the scheduled sign-off date and concluded in good standing. “Cumulative” means total sea service within that one contract; short authorized breaks do not reset it. |
| Senior Printer Specialist | The tenure-based grade awarded to a Printer Specialist who has reached the threshold of six (6) Completed Contracts under CIMS. It is a pay grade recognizing longevity; it does not, under this version, carry additional duties beyond the standard Printer Specialist role. |
| Disqualifying Event | Early termination of a contract due to disciplinary repatriation. A contract ended by a Disqualifying Event does not count as a Completed Contract and is excluded from the threshold count. |
| Verification Owner | Rita (Crew Records), responsible for maintaining and confirming each crew member’s Completed Contract count against the CIMS source of truth. |
| Source of Truth | The CIMS Keyman system. This is the single authoritative record for contract counts under this SOP. |
4. Eligibility Criteria
- Threshold: six (6) Completed Contracts under CIMS.
- Counting start point: only contracts completed under CIMS (June 2021 forward) count toward the threshold. Service performed for a customer prior to CIMS holding the program is not counted.
- Unit of measure: eligibility is measured in Completed Contracts, not calendar months. Because each Completed Contract requires a minimum of six months of cumulative sea-time, the threshold represents roughly 36 months — about three years — of minimum sea service.
- Disqualified contracts: any contract ended by a Disqualifying Event (disciplinary repatriation) does not count. The crew member may still reach the threshold through subsequent Completed Contracts.
- Eligibility is role-based and customer-agnostic: a qualifying crew member is promoted regardless of which vessel or customer the contracts were served on.
5. Compensation Effect
Promotion to Senior Printer Specialist adds USD $100 per month to the crew member’s monthly salary, applied on top of all existing compensation components (e.g., MFD-related earnings, the bonus structure, and any other current entitlements). It does not replace or reduce any existing component.
Prospective only. The +$100 increase applies from the crew member’s promotion effective date forward. There is no back pay for months served prior to promotion. This applies equally to crew who have already passed the six-contract threshold (see Section 6).
6. Recognition of Existing Crew
Crew members who have already reached six (6) Completed Contracts as of the effective date of this SOP are recognized as Senior Printer Specialists immediately, subject to verification under Section 7.
- Their title is updated and the +$100/month is applied from the SOP effective date (or date of verified approval, whichever the GM sets) forward.
- No retroactive payment is owed for prior months. Recognition is forward-looking.
- This ensures long-tenured crew are not disadvantaged by the timing of the policy, while keeping CIMS’s liability limited to the go-forward monthly cost.
7. Verification & Approval Workflow
| Step | Action / Owner |
| 1. Identify | Rita reviews contract records monthly and flags any crew member who has reached six (6) Completed Contracts. Crew may also request a review. |
| 2. Verify | Rita confirms the Completed Contract count against the Source of Truth, excluding any Disqualifying Events. |
| 3. Recommend | Rita submits a verified promotion recommendation to the General Manager. |
| 4. Approve | The General Manager (Miguel San Martin) approves the promotion. |
| 5. Apply | Payroll is updated effective the next pay cycle following approval: title changed to Senior Printer Specialist and +$100/month added. |
| 6. Notify | The crew member is formally notified of the promotion and the salary change. |
8. Cost Ownership
The incremental +$100/month per Senior Printer Specialist is carried as a CIMS operating cost. Rita maintains a running list of active Senior Printer Specialists so the recurring monthly cost is visible and forecastable.
9. Dispute & Escalation Path
- A crew member who believes their Completed Contract count is incorrect raises it with Rita, with supporting documentation (e.g., sign-off records).
- Rita reviews the records against the Source of Truth and responds.
- If unresolved, the matter is escalated to the General Manager, whose decision is final.
10. Records & Source of Truth
- The CIMS Keyman system is the single authoritative record of Completed Contract counts.
- Rita is responsible for keeping these records current and accurate.
- Promotion approvals and effective dates are logged against each crew member’s record.
