Port Days Guidelines / Shipboard Port Manning Follow
Port Days Guidelines
When in port, be sure to wear a watch that is set to ship time as that may be different from port time. Employees must be on board the vessel at the time designated by the ship for a crew to report.
Check the time before you depart the ship and verify the departure time. When disembarking the vessel on port days, make sure there is a way for you to return to the ship. Know how long it will take to return and allow for traffic jams or unforeseen delays. Missing the ship is a very serious matter and can be the basis for disciplinary action including dismissal.
Shipboard Port Manning
In-Port Manning. As part of the onboard safety requirements, a certain percentage of officers and other members of the ship’s crew must remain onboard at all times and perform certain safety functions at the discretion of the vessel personnel. Company employees are included in this duty and will abide by the schedule set forth by the Shipboard Manager and the instructions of the appropriate vessel personnel in this regard.
Employees scheduled on safety duty will not be allowed to debark the vessel for any reason. If an emergency situation arises, permission must be obtained from the appropriate safety officer and the Shipboard Manger before disembarking.
